In 2006 I was at the airport about to take a trip across country, I forgot the book I wanted to read so I quickly ran into one of the shops and picked something up.
The book I picked out was Living Buddha, Living Christ by Thich Nhat Hanh. Thich is a Vietnamese monk, a Zen Master, a poet, a peace activist, author and a inspiration to millions.
After reading Living Buddha, Living Christ I went to Barnes and Noble and bought every Thich Nhat Hanh book I could find.
Jumping forward to 2014 Thich Nhat Hanh released a new book…..No Mud, No Lotus – The Art of Transforming Suffering. He teaches us that the secret to true happiness is acknowledging and embracing our suffering. Suffering wants to destroy us but we have to let it inspire and transform us.
Lotus grow in the mud, it’s nourished by the mud and through the mud it grows into a beautiful flower. In Buddhism the Lotus symbolizes the awakening of your heart and mind. I have learn without the mud there would be no lotus, without suffering we do not grow mentally, physically or spiritually.
I never take a trip without taking three books with me, The Bible, Living Buddha, Living Christ , and No Mud, No Lotus. No matter how many times I read them I learn something new. I think this year I have bought every self help book published. One by one I not only did I read them but I started taking notes and living the words.
One day I woke up and decided I wanted to be the woman, wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend God intended me be. Since that day my life has changed 100%. I walk slower, speak softer, listen in a way people love to talk to me, and I hug my family and friends a lot tighter.
But what does all this have to do with the name of my blog. Well, I read a quote one day “Just like the lotus, we too have the ability to rise from the mud, bloom out of the darkness and radiate into the world.” ~Unknown. I knew I wanted my new blog to have lotus in it. My mother and I were sitting down talking one day and she said ” you sure are a hungry lotus.” I said ” what does that mean?” she said ” It’s almost like you are hungry for a more mindful life and you are growing into a beautiful lotus.” I started crying. She’s right.. moms are always right lol.
So that’s how The Hungry Lotus was born. I want this blog to be about plant based, gluten free food, self love, self respect, yoga, meditation, my love for the moon, bullet point journaling, boho fashion and maybe some DIY stuff every now and than. All the things I’m hungry for.
I’m thinking my blog schedule will be Monday-Wednesday-Friday.
I also want to do some Mindful Monday, What I Eat Wednesday, Friday Favorites
